5 Frame Nucleus Colonies
Nucleus colonies (nucs) are made up of 5 deep frames of bees. Each nuc will contain frames of bees, brood, pollen, and honey. Availability is dependent on weather and bee growth but we estimate that they will be ready for pickup sometime between mid-May to mid-June 2023.
Our bees are not a specific breed such as Italians or Carniolans but instead derived from our own survivor stock. We aim to select genetics that promote honey production, the ability to overwinter, and resistance to mites among other desirable traits.
You'll be contacted once nucs are available and we can work out a pickup time. Pickup will be in the evening (when it is dark) and is dependent on the weather. Nucs are sold in heavy-duty cardboard boxes and are meant to be used as temporary housing. You should have proper equipment ready to house your new bees.
We are licensed and certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to sell bees. This means our hives are inspected yearly to ensure our bees are healthy and disease-free.
